Guidelines for stopping mass drug administration and verifying elimination of human onchocerciasis: Criteria and procedures

These evidence-based guidelines are developed by the WHO NTD Department according to the international standards on certification of elimination of human onchocerciasis.

They provide a set of recommendations to national program managers in collaboration with their respective oversight committees on 1) when to stop mass drug administration (MDA), and 2) to conduct post-treatment surveillance (PTS) activities for a minimum period of three to five years before confirming the interruption of transmission (and hence its elimination) of Onchocerca volvulus parasite.
