Progress towards eliminating onchocerciasis in the WHO Region of the Americas: verification of elimination of transmission in Guatemala
On 20 July 2016, based on the internal review by WHO of the IVT’s report and recommendations, the WHO Director-General issued an official letter to Guatemala confirming the elimination of onchocerciasis transmission. The WHO verification was formally announced by the Guatemalan Minister of Health at the 55th Directing Council PAHO meeting in Washington DC on 29 September 2016. (WHO, 2016)
