Video: MDP’s 35th anniversary film series #4 – The Key

Celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Mectizan donation all year with our series of new videos. Fourth: The Strategy – Thousands of Community Drug Distributors are helping their communities eliminate river blindness and other diseases.

Mectizan and albendazole are distributed to locally trained volunteers known as Community Drug Distributors (CDDs). This empowers communities to determine and address their health needs. They travel from village to village distributing Mectizan using a pole to determine the correct dose based on height. Meet Mariam, a CDD from Kebbi State, Nigeria. [voiceover in her language with English subtitles] “We are giving these medicines out today so that future generations will not even know that there is something like oncho.” Alongside Mariam, thousands of CDDs are helping their communities eliminate river blindness and other diseases.
