Dr. Biswas is a physician and senior public health leader with over 35 years’ experience in neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), including direct leadership of WHO’s Control of Neglected Tropical Diseases Program, including onchocerciasis, lymphatic filariasis, STH, and guinea worm elimination programs. During his extensive career, Dr. Biswas led preventive chemotherapy programs that delivered medicines to over one billion people annually. Dr. Biswas led India’s successful national guinea worm elimination effort and piloted mass drug administration for elimination of lymphatic filariasis in India. He is the author or co-author of 21 peer-reviewed publications on NTD elimination strategies, drug delivery, health systems integration, and disease surveillance.
Dr. Biswas holds an MD and MBBS from the University of Delhi, and completed postgraduate studies in Community Health Administration at National Institute of Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi.
